The Discovery:
Developed by University of Washington researchers, the Health Octo Tool analyzes eight straightforward clinical measures, including number of diseased organs, walking speed, and physical disability, to generate Bodily System-Specific Clocks (BSCs), a composite Body Clock, and even Speed-Body and Disability-Body Clocks. This multidimensional model predicted disability and mortality with ≥ 90% accuracy.

Integrated Bayesian modeling of disease burden across organs to derive individual Body Clock and organ-specific aging rates
Includes physical function metrics like walking speed (Speed‑Body Clock) and combined physical/cognitive disability (Disability-Body Clock)
Outperformed traditional frailty indexes across datasets such as BLSA and InCHIANTI
Demonstrates organ-heterogeneous aging, each system (heart, lung, CNS, etc.) ages at its own rate, affecting overall mortality risk
Offers potential for real-world use via a clinical app to track aging trajectory over time
