🔬TODAY’S BREAKTHROUGH

What does the body of a 117-year-old who never developed cancer or dementia look like at the molecular level? Scientists now have the answer.

The Discovery:

In a groundbreaking multiomics study, researchers analyzed the genome, epigenome, transcriptome, metabolome, proteome, and microbiome of the oldest verified human in history. Despite signs of extreme chronological aging, this supercentenarian exhibited a unique biological profile associated with low inflammation, strong immune function, younger epigenetic age, and resilient genetic variants.

The Science:

  • Telomeres were extremely short, yet no cancer or degenerative diseases occurred

  • Identified rare genetic variants tied to immune regulation, cognition, and mitochondrial efficiency

  • Despite mutations associated with clonal hematopoiesis, no tumors developed

  • B cell populations were aged, but T cell memory and cytotoxicity were strong and youthful

  • Lipid metabolism was highly efficient, with exceptionally high HDL and low VLDL levels

  • Blood showed very low systemic inflammation, including low GlycA and GlycB levels

  • Her microbiome resembled that of much younger individuals, with high Bifidobacterium

  • Epigenetic clocks in blood, saliva, and urine estimated her biological age as decades younger

  • DNA methylation profiles showed preservation of chromosomal stability and repeat silencing

Your Action:

  • Prioritize anti-inflammatory foods and maintain a Mediterranean-style diet with fermented foods like yogurt.

  • Support mitochondrial and cardiovascular health through regular movement.

  • Protect your epigenome with quality sleep and stress reduction.

  • Consider microbiome-targeted strategies such as probiotics or prebiotic fiber.

Bottom Line:

Extreme longevity may emerge when disease biology and aging biology decouple, revealing powerful new targets for healthy aging.
